In 1968, at the Northrup Corporation Research and Technology Center of the University of California, Mani Lal Bhaumik and a group of different men of science, while working at the development of a carbonic acid gas laser, would build up the Excimer laser, where specks that don't usually exist come to life when xenon, argon or krypton gases are activated. This would constitute the fundament for LASIK eye surgical operation. Dr. Bhaumik proclaimed his find in May of 1973 at a conference of the Denver Optical Society of America in Denver, Colorado. He would afterwards patent his discovery.[Dr Boothe]

The launching of Laser in this refractile operation commenced with the developings in Laser technology by Rangaswamy Srinivasan. In 1980, Srinivasan, working at IBM Research Lab, described that an UV excimer optical maser could etch living tissue in an accurate way with no thermic harm to the environing region. He titled the phenomenon Ablative Photodecomposition (APD).[2]. MD. Stephen Trokel wrote an article in the American Journal of Ophthalmology in 1983, sketching the potential of employing the excimer laser in refractive surgical operations. [Dr William Boothe]
